What does the consultation consists of?
This is the first step that the future patient must make.
During this meeting your surgeon will appraise your health condition, in physical, psychic and emotional terms. You must be prepared to answer to few questions related to:
-
previous surgery procedures
-
previous or current diseases
-
the medication that you're taking including herb remedies or nutrition supplements
-
the results of a mammography in case you already made one
-
breast cancer history in your family
Your surgeon will explain you about what this procedure consists of and about the way the external and internal factors could change breast shape. The breasts will also be examined and probably pictures of them will be taken for medical evidence of that clinic. Breast size, shape, skin quality, areola and mammilla location will be considered.
In case you don't have available a recent mammography it is good to male one before the surgery. Your surgeon might suggest you to make additional procedures to improve the expected results. For example, if your breasts are very fallen it is good to make mammary augmentation in combination with a breast lifting procedure.
How does the surgery procedure occur?
The surgical practice used by your surgeon depends on the results you expect. The incision could be located in three distinct locations: in the submammary fold, in the periareolar line, in the armpits area.
The "pocket" in which the prosthesis is inserted could be made behind the pectoral muscle, in contact with the costal grid, or behind the mammary gland, on the pectoral muscles.
Which are the risks of this procedure?
There are two types of mammary implants: with physiological serum and with silicone gel. The implants with physiological serum are already considered in the past. Modern silicone implants contain cohesive silicone which does not leak and does not change shape. Silicone gel implants are very natural upon touch and this is the reason for which they are preferred to salt implants.
Every year thousands of women take advantage of this procedure without encountering major complications. Your surgeon will make available to you all information regarding the risks and the benefits of this procedure. It is recommended to comply with all the instructions given by your doctor regarding both periods, before and after the surgery, to minimize the risks.
How can I learn about the implant size that fits me?
The final consultation with your doctors should consist of a series of measurements following which you will be recommended a maximum and a minimum size that would fit you. You will also be recommended the implant shape, based also on your preferences.
In our clinic the patient has available a series of external sizers, which are some prosthesis inserted in a special bra that could give the patient a relatively but pretty close image to the reality of the future breast.
What do the preparations for surgery consist of?
Once established the surgery day you will receive instructions about:
-
certain drugs to be avoided
-
stop smoking (if possible)
-
tests and investigations to be done before the surgery
The surgery is performed in a surgery room with general or local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Immediately after the surgery you will be monitored in a special recovery room, the breasts will be banded with dressing material or with a special brassiere.
How will I feel after the surgery?
Within one or two days after the surgery you will be able to get up and make less demanding activities. The discomfort that you will feel translates into a thoracic constriction sensation and powerful muscle fever. Although every person heals differently, some general guidelines could be drawn as it follows:
In the first week:
-
You will make your first shower after the surgery
-
You will resume your daily activities
-
You can resume your sexual life, provided to stress the breasts as less as possible
After 7-8 weeks:
-
The biggest part of the edema will disappear and the final result will start to take shape
-
You may interrupt non-stop use of the breast support
-
You may resume more intense physical exercises as well as large arm movements
After 8 weeks:
-
you resume completely all types of activities you were making before the surgery
-
there is one thing you cannot neglect, which is soft and circular massage, which was indicated by your doctor starting with the third week, and which must continue until 6 months after the surgery.
What do I have to know about the results of the procedure?
Usually the patients show a high level of satisfaction. You could give up to sponge doubled bra, or to other practices of artificial breast increase. Most of the women consider that their new silhouette increases a lot their self confidence.
The results are very good for many years; however you must not forget that the impact of gravitation, of body mass fluctuation as well as the impact of ageing shows also on the surged breasts. After the healing period you must come back for many consultations with your surgeon to quantify the results on long term.
How could I know if the implants that I will have are of the best quality?
Your surgeon will show you a series of prosthesis that he/she works with. Original prosthesis are marked by a serial number and by the logo of the manufacturer. In Care Zone Medical clinic the specialists are using the best brands such as Mentor, Inamed, Sebbin, Eurosilicon.
When exiting the clinic the patient will receive a card that contains the serial numbers of the two prosthesis used, this card representing at the same time manufacturer's warranty.
After how long I should replace my implants?
Most of the certified manufacturers guarantee for these prosthesis for “lifetime”. However, the thing that nobody can guarantee for is maintaining the breast shape in time. Breast shape is affected by very many factors, the most important being: multiple pregnancies, breast size, skin elasticity level, the type of daily activity, etc.
Usually, in normal conditions, the breast shape maintains for a big number of years, from 10 to 15, and then, probably, a breast lifting procedure will be needed, occasion on which most of the patients choose also to replace the prosthesis.
