Chin Implant

Small volume deficits existing at various levels of the face could be remedied with the help of volume occupying products, such asinjectable products, own fat or where there are volume deficits through lack ofbone structure, implants are used.

Of the latter ones the most frequently used are the chinimplants to correct face appearance, and in particular of the chin, viewed fromprofile.

Facial implants are silicone products, harder or softer,that could be “carved” to fit the best the acceptor area.

These are inserted inthe respective areas through minimum incisions which usually are located at thelevel of the oral cavity. In case of chin implants the incision must be eitherin the low oral vestibule or under the chin skin in a natural fold, very wellhidden.

In case of malar implants (cheek) the incisions areperformed at the level of the high oral vestibule and the implants are insertedthrough a subperiosteal approach in the deficient areas. The surgeries are performed under general anesthesia and thehealing period takes few days.

Subsequently, for more than one week it isrequired to take great care in terms of hygiene actions at the face level dueto any small shock might mobilize the chin or malar implant in an inconvenientdirection.

This must be kept in the position in which it was insertedduring the surgery for a period of 4 to 6 weeks, which is enough to consolidatethe scarring process around the implant.

Although the treatment is very efficient, 1% of the patients do not obtain the results they want!
