Clitoris Circumcision

The clitoris is located at the level of the anterior portion of the vulva and is a sensitive, rich innervated structure, having the role to produce and maintain the sexual excitation. In passive condition, the clitoris is not visible normally, being positioned inside a skin “glove” that protects it against external stimulations. During the sexual act this enters to erection and becomes obvious at the vulva level.

Sometimes this skin glove is very prominent, in the area existing a significant skin excess. This tissue in excess prevents clitoris erection and the woman cannot reach orgasm. Through excision of the skin in excess a potential cause of frigidity could be treated.

The surgery consists of the excision of a part of this skin that surrounds it, in such manner that it is easier to access during the sexual act. The surgery is similar, at list in theoretical terms, with the skin resection practiced at penile skin. The plasty of local tissues must be planned as to not cause constrictions or painful retractile scars.

Frequently asked questions

How long it takes to heal?

The healing takes in average 7 to 10 days, period in which the area must be submitted to a detailed care. Sexual stimulations are forbidden for the healing period due to it could be painful or could damage local sutures.

How long after the surgery could the sexual life be resumed?

Sexual life could be resumed after around 3 to 4 weeks, time frame that is sufficient to allow the closure of the surgery wounds and proper local healing.

Is this a painful surgery?

The surgery is not painful because it is performed under local (epidural) or general (upon request) anesthesia. Usual pain killer medication is enough to remove the post surgical discomfort.

What do pre surgical preparations consist of?

Before the surgery a series of blood tests must be done that allow us to exclude the possibility of any blood coagulation issue. The vulva area is extremely well vascularized and bleeding could be abundant.

With at least 2 weeks before the surgery you most stop taking any drug, except for those prescribed by your surgeon. Few days before the surgery the vagina will be cleaned with worm water and vaginal antiseptic agents, and then a betadine bolus will be inserted in the vagina.

Betadine soap is also very useful. Bandage is not mandatory if you stay at home. Underwear is not mandatory in the house. In case you go out you must use an external vulval pack and panties which are not too tight.

Don't wear tight pants at list for 3 to 4 weeks following the surgery.
