The implantation in the buttocks (gluteal) area of silicone prosthesis increases their volume and creates an increased aesthetic prominence.

What does the consultation before surgery consists of?

Before the surgery the patient will meet the doctor more than one time, to establish all details as clearly as possible. On these occasions the patient will be informed regarding:

the types of implants
presurgical rules that the patient must comply with (to not take any drug, other than those prescribed by the doctor),
to not smoke if possible, to not take any contraceptive medication for at list one month before the surgery, etc.
the set of tests mandatory for the surgery.

Still on this occasion many measurements will be done in order to choose, with the patient, the best size for the selected prosthesis.

Which are the contraindications of the procedure?

Due to this procedure takes long time, general anesthesia is needed. Serious cardiopulmonary diseases that carry an anesthetic risk represent a contraindication to this surgery.

Serious dermatological and contagious diseases, cachexia and sugar diabetes are also contraindicated to such surgery. Impracticable expectations of the patient also represent a contraindication to practice this surgery.

Which are the risks of the surgery?

Immediate risks include abundant bleeding, local inflammation, wound dehiscence (suture spread), seroma, etc. Pathological scarring, asymmetry, unwanted movements of one or both implants, intolerance to suture wires, etc, could occur remotely.

To prevent all these drawbacks it is absolutely required to stay in the clinic, under medical surveillance, for at least 24 hours, and to come to all consultations you'll be invited to. There is also the risk of capsular contracture as in the case of breast increase with silicone implants.

How long it takes to heal?

Healing could occur fast in case no complication appears or could become difficult based on the sensitivity degree of the patient. In general, after 2 to 3 weeks since the surgery the patients could resume sitting position, initially on a special shaped chair that avoids implant areas of too high pressure.

What do postsurgical care consist of?

The wires will be taken out within 12 to 14 days. The incision will be made at the level of the infra gluteal fold. In this area the scar will be very less visible. Following the extraction of the suture material the patient must wash herself and, after all the crusts have fallen, she must use products for scar remedy.

Although the treatment is very efficient, 1% of the patients do not obtain the results they want!
