A tonic and well proportioned body is considered a symbol of health and vitality. Fat deposits located anywhere on the body, that don't react to diet and physical exercises are successfully solved through liposuction.
Liposuction models some regions of the body by removing the fat in excess and by improving the shape and the proportions.
Frequently asked questions
What means liposuction?
Liposuction, which is also called lipoplasty or suction adipectomy or liposuction, means surgical removal of the located fat deposits. There are three technical options:
-
Traditional liposuction defined as being simple removal through suction of the fat deposits
-
Intumescences practice or the "super wet" practice which consists of the infusion of salt solution with adrenalin admixture, local anesthetic before starting the actual fat suction
-
Ultrasound lipoplasty, the practice where the ultrasound energy is used to liquate the fat to be sucked
Liposuction could be used to remove fat deposits at the level of:
-
the cheek, the chin, the neck
-
superior members
-
the anterior and posterior thorax
-
the abdomen and waist
-
the thighs and bottocks
-
the calfs
-
the internal region of the knees
-
the shins and ankles
In same cases liposuction could be associated with other aesthetic surgery procedures such as: facial lifting, mammary reduction, abdomenplasty. Liposuction is neither a treatment for obesity nor an efficient treatment against cellulite. It is the ideal treatment to remodel some areas which are disproportion against the rest of the body.
Ideal candidates to this type of procedure are adult persons, independent of age, having the body mass of plus/minus 30% of the ideal value, with firm and elastic skin and good muscle tone. They should also fulfill the following requirements:
-
Persons with good health condition, without diseases that could interfere with the healing process
-
Non-smokers
-
Good capacity of understanding, viewing potential results with fairness
Particular considerations could be obtained by persons suffering from diseases such as sugar diabetes, blood hypertension, cardiac diseases or previous liposuction.
How the evaluation session does occur?
The consultation with your surgeon is the first step to find out the details you're interested in about this practice. Discussions about below topics are included:
-
your wishes and what could actually be obtained through this practice
-
practice options
-
procedure risks and complications
-
treatment plan prescribed by your doctor
The consultation also contains the evaluation of your health condition, physically and emotionally.
Is the liposuction an individualized procedure?
Liposuction is a highly individualized procedure. The success of this procedure depends on a good evaluation of the patient and of the complete awareness of the potential results.
Skin tone and elasticity as well as the density of the fat tissue and its distribution are the factors dictating the chosen technique and that affect the final result. It is a surgical procedure.
It requires some small incisions near the areas to be treated, through which variable size cannula are inserted. Sometimes the incision is so small that it does not require suture wires. The fat is mobilized by using a vacuum.
For small areas vacuum syringes could be used. The syringes are also used in case you wish to transfer the sucked fat to other areas of your body, to increase the volume of the acceptor area (eg. lips) through microlipofilling. It could also be used to treat deep wrinkles. The sucked area is bandaged with a special frame to help the skin "fold" on the new content. Sometimes some secondary procedures are needed to remove the skin in excess.
Following the healing time frame of approximately 14 days, weekly sessions of endermology are useful to melt even more the sucked area and to heal as supple as possible.
How should I prepare for the surgery?
You'll receive specific instructions including:
-
pre-surgery considerations, diagnosis tests and required medication
-
information regarding the procedure day
-
information about the chosen anesthesia
-
information about the post surgery care
The potential risks include irregular shape, skin folding or fallen skin, nerve or skin injuries, irregular pigmentation, infections of the treated area, fat or blood "plugs", increases losses of liquids or liquid accumulation in the procedure location.
In case of the ultrasound practice the risk of tissue burning is to be added. The anesthesia risk adds also.
Which is the medication after the surgery?
A flexible and compressive bandage must be worn for 2 months. It has the role to control the edema that develops after the surgery and to compress the skin on the new content.
You'll receive instructions about:
-
how to take care of the surged area
-
the medication against pain and potential infection
-
date of the next consultation
In general, normal intensity activities are resumed as soon as possible. This prevents the occurrence of embolia and other complications. The operative wound heals within 5 to 10 days.
The healing process continues for many weeks. You will have to check your weight throughout the healing due to if you'll gain weight the result of the liposuction could be compromised.
The local edema could disappear within few months. Once it disappears the new shape of the body shows up.
