Subscission

Subscission is a aestetic medicine procedure and consists of using a fine needle to produce an “irritation” at the level of each wrinkle to stimulate own collagen. The stimulated area looks like a "scratch" after the treatment, which heals within 2 to 4 days through formation of local collagen. Initially it was designed to treat fine wrinkles and post acne scars and it was called BioSkinJetting. Subsequently the practice was broadly used. In case of cellulite, the subscission might have a favorable impact by destroying intradermal and subdermal septum which is responsible for the occurrence of the “orange peel skin” look. Following a specialized consultation needed to establish the cellulite areas that require this procedure, the tegument is disinfected with surgical cleaning products and the procedure is applied on.

The practice is softly bleeding and, therefore, it is recommended to perform it in conditions of absolute sterility. Following the treatment the skin could become livid and/or softly tumid for few days. Local cold applications are usually sufficient to remove the potential inconveniences. This practice is recently appeared and it seems to give good results for normal weight patients, in restricted areas, in particular in case of the cellulite resistant to other forms of treatment with powerful fiber component.

How many treatment sessions are needed?

Usually, 2 to 3 treatment sessions are needed fixed at a variable interval of time depending of the treated affection. In case of cellulite and permanent irregularities resulted from the liposuction, the treatment could be repeated after 4 to 6 months.

In case of depressive scars it is recommended to accompany the subscission with a filling practice, such as filling with own fat. In case of wrinkles the time frame between the sessions is equal to 2 weeks. It is usually associated with the injection of botulinum toxin at the same level to obtain results which last longer. In any case it is forbidden to expose the treated areas to sun radiation for a period of 6 months.

How long does the session take?

The duration of a session takes from 10 to 30 minutes. It depends on the size of the area to treat. In case of wider areas it could take longer. It is required to comply with absolute sterility conditions.

Is it a painful practice?

Wrinkle and post acne scar treatment could be performed with local anesthesia, with the help of anesthetic creams. In case of the other affections an injection of local anesthetic is needed. For longer procedures general anesthesia could be performed.

Which are the contraindications of the subscission?

The contraindications of the procedure are serious skin diseases, serious blood coagulation diseases, sugar diabetes, serious chronic diseases, chronic infections, etc.

Are the results permanent?

Usually the results are very durable. However, sometimes another series of treatments is required with a variable interval of time framing between 4 and 10 months. Results maintain in time also as a function of the way the skin and subjacent tissues are cared for. At the same time, results vary a lot from one person to another. In case of cellulite treatment, if the subscission is not accompanied by practices of maintenance and prevention of affection complication, the results will not last.

Which are the complications of this practice?

The complications of this procedure include local infections, exaggerated bleeding, ecchymosis, hematoma, hyperpigmentation in case of sun radiation exposure, etc.

Although the treatment is very efficient, 1% of the patients do not obtain the results they want!
